So I mentioned in previous emails that our family doesn’t do formal gift exchanges for the adults.  We only give the children gifts.  Because we just love the look on the kid’s faces when they open their presents on Christmas morning.  And afterwards we would go over to our parents house and play games.  And one of those games is a “White Elephant Gift Exchange.”  
Now how is that different than traditional gift giving? Well, first of all, it’s super low key.  I don’t have to put too much thought into it.  The whole point is to choose a funny or outrageous gift, but still keeping everything classy.  We have kids and minors participating too.  And we would wrap the gifts up in beautiful wrapping papers.  I always wrap several extra gifts, just in case we have unannounced guests so that they don’t feel left out. We take turn picking the gifts from the pile from the youngest (pick first) to the oldest (pick last).  And then we play games and allows people to steal each other gifts before they are opened.  And then everyone opens their gifts and reveal what it is they scored. 
One year we had several people fighting over a a 4 pack of toilet papers (that was wrapped nicely in a box).  This was pre Covid era 😆.  We all had a great laugh!  And see, I still remember that moment and it still brought back all of the happy emotions and put a smile on my face.  Go ahead and swipe my idea if you want to add the “White Elephant Gift Exchange” to your family Christmas tradition.
