Five Steps to the Project Management Closure Process Phase

Posts Project Management

Believe it or not, the steps you take during the closing process of project management can significantly impact customer satisfaction and the success of your future products. The closure phase of project management is designed to make sure you meet your stakeholder's expectations and future ones by reviewing and updating your techniques and system. However, simply sending the project off and walking away doesn't help you in the long run.

The following are five steps to follow to close a small business project:

Step One: Conduct a Final Scope Analysis

Essentially, this is the step you review to ensure meeting the project expectations. During a scope analysis, you will review the project scope, objectives, project work statement, and major deliverables to ensure they are finished and ready to be delivered. This is a great time to ask for feedback to make any last-minute changes.

Step Two: May Payments and Close Contracts

Be sure to check any third-party accounts required to create the project are paid and closed. This also includes verifying with the stakeholder or project owner that they paid all fees or dues on time.

Step Three: Deliver the Project

Once the scope analysis is approved, and all fees are paid, you can share the project with the stakeholder or your customers. With a proper scope analysis, you know your customer will be satisfied. Ensure you provide access to every part of the project and release ownership should the project require it.

Step Four: Host a Post Project Review

This is where you highlight and document any important lessons learned throughout executing the project. What important information do you need to remember for your next project and why? Did you experience any issues that could use more practice? Doing this step will help you perfect your processes and finish future project fasters with higher quality.

Step Five: Recognize and Reward

Recognize that the project is over and celebrate your success. Finally, reward yourself for doing the work and creating a great project. This last step is essential to providing fuel for your next project. If you never feel the satisfaction of finishing one project, it can be hard to find the motivation to start the next one.

Be sure you follow these five steps to the project management closure process if you want to deliver a successful project every time. This phase is important to ensure you acquire the important details to improve your communication, attention to detail, organization, and customer satisfaction for all projects, not just one.
