How to Interview Competitors to Boost Your Reputation and Theirs

30 Days to Leveraging Your Competition to Grow Your Online Business Fast

One way to work with your competition is to interview each other to use case studies, educational information, and promotional materials. Many industry leaders start Podcasts, YouTube channels, and even magazines. You can publish your interview to industry publications and platforms or your own private media. It’s up to you.

In Writing for Your Blog

You can interview in writing by sending your questions to industry leaders and anyone you see as your competition around the world. Take their answers and turn them into a blog post series. Don’t forget to your affiliate link to link to their offers and information too.

As a Feature Article

You don’t have to limit your work to your blog. Once you create the blog post, you can expand on the information and create a feature article to submit to industry publications either as a contribution or for pay.

On YouTube

You can also produce your interview using video. The video can be placed on YouTube and linked to whenever you want to showcase that information. Remember that it can be turned into a blog post, a featured article, or even a podcast when you record a video interview.

On a Podcast

There are numerous podcasts for each industry to submit your short interviews to as an additional contract segment for someone else’s show. But you can also start your own podcast series as a way to distribute your industry interviews.

During a Facebook Live Event

A fun way to conduct an interview is through a live Facebook Event that can be simultaneously live on your page and the competition’s pages. The live event will be recorded and showed to your audience and theirs long after the “live” date.

During a Live Webinar

Just like the Facebook Live event – you can also run your interview as a live webinar first, then as a recorded webinar later. All of which can be repurposed and used in all the ways mentioned in this short blog post.

In a Book Compilation

An enjoyable way to gather information and share it with competitors is to interview them for inclusion in a book about your industry or a book of advice for your joint ideal audience. You can transcribe voice interviews or interview them by email or questionnaire to be included in your book.

The exciting thing about doing interviews is that you can learn a lot about your industry by conducting many of them. If you share all your interviews with the public, a fantastic thing will happen – you’ll become a thought leader. Some people call this the Oprah Effect. If you’re careful about the guests you interview and keep your interviews respectful and factual, the trust you develop will rub off on your business reputation, boosting it for years to come as a go-to expert.
