Leaders Encourage Others to Build Their EQ Too

Raising your Business Leadership EQ

Leaders lead, it’s what they do! As a leader, you set an example for those under your watchful eye. How you behave, what you encourage, and the standards you set directly impact the people you lead. Great leaders do the work to raise their EQ and encourage others to build theirs too.

In the same way leaders need to:

  1. Take better care of themselves
  2. Learn new skillsets
  3. Have healthy outlets for stress
  4. Live well-rounded lives

The facts are, their teams or the people they lead need the very same things. That’s why it’s important for leaders to encourage…and expect… the same things from their team as they do from themselves. Though your team, family, or community might not be in a leadership role per se, they still benefit from the same activities and mindset that high EQ leaders have.

Here are some excellent ways to encourage others to build their EQ too

Share your experiences- People are highly motivated by appropriate vulnerability. Sharing stories or examples of your personal growth with emotional maturity can inspire those you lead. Share examples that people can relate to that show them they can grow and raise their EQ just like you have.

Encourage learning- If you are a life-long learner it’s important to afford those you lead the same experience. Encourage staff or other people you lead to further their education formally and informally. Learning is easier than ever, make it possible and easy for those you lead to increase their skills regularly.

Be a mentor- There comes a time when every leader must become a mentor. To hold back a lifetime of knowledge is a waste. Becoming a mentor and helping an up-and-coming colleague or protégé speed up their learning curve is a wonderful use of your time and talents.

Learn together- Leading by example is always ideal. People respect leaders who roll up their sleeves and do the work alongside their team. It’s the same with self-improvement. Learning alongside your staff or those you lead can bond a team together and raise morale.

As a leader, it’s important to empower others to be their best. In the same way it’s important to continue learning and raising your EQ, it helps you to have those you lead increasing theirs too. This will help them in their own relationships, make them easier to manage, and help identify people with exceptional leadership skills that deserve promotion.
