Stop Worrying About Your Competition – You May be Just What Your Readers Need

The Power Of One Challenge

It’s not unusual to start comparing yourself to your competition. After all, you’re told to study your competition and do a little better than them. You’re told to spy on your competition, to use their keywords, to participate in discussions with their audience, and so much more. It can be easy to get fixated on your competition in an unhealthy way that makes you worry about being good enough. But guess what. There is only one you; you may be just what your readers need.

Get Over Imposter Syndrome

So many people wake up each day and think they’re not good enough. It doesn’t matter what they accomplish; they think someone is better than them. But what if you stopped thinking of people or business as better or worse, but rather, different. You know you have the skills to do what you do when you really admit it. And you do it differently than anyone else - that’s great!

You Offer Value

When you look at everything you offer, you know that you offer value. Look at what you do that’s the same as your competition, and then look at what you do differently and the added value you offer. You probably offer a lot more value than you think you do when you’re honest about it. Maybe your value is in the fact you only accept five clients a year, so you can focus in on those clients? Maybe your value is in that you offer a different perspective than others. The value that you offer that is only yours is special.

You Are Unique

One thing no one can take from you is your uniqueness. Maybe your customers like the sound of your voice more than the competitor’s voice. That doesn’t mean your competition is worse than you or that you’re better than them. It just means that your voice resonates more with your audience than your competition’s voice. That’s perfectly okay and a legitimate reason for them to pick you. Imagine if you didn’t give them that option?

You Care About Your Customer

I’m not saying that your competition doesn’t. But you care about them in a way that resonates with the customers you have. The people who choose your competition resonate more with them and that’s perfectly fine. You’re not worse; they’re not worse. You’re just different. See the theme yet?

Don’t Do Your Customer Wrong

Here’s the thing to think about that you may not have considered before. Maybe you’re the exact person to deliver the message you deliver to the person who needs it, hears it, reads it, and wants it? Maybe if you weren’t doing what you do, they would not hear the message because the competition doesn’t deliver the message the way you do, so they cannot receive it yet. Don’t do your customer wrong by not being here.

When you start thinking of competition as a complement to you instead of in terms of who is better and who is worse, it will open a whole new world for you. But, if you keep having issues with it – remember, you could have imposter syndrome which you may need to work out with a counselor or life coach so that you can move forward feeling good about your success.
