Finding and Connecting with Podcasters for Collaboration

Grow Your Traffic & Reach by Collaborating with Podcasters

You may be convinced of the power of podcasting to increase your traffic and make collaborations fun and lucrative, but you may be stumped on how to connect with podcasters. Depending on the show’s popularity, it might be harder to get noticed and earn a spot on the schedule. Here’s are a few tips for finding and connecting with podcasters for collaboration.

Be Social- Podcasters have active social media. If you are particularly interested in a podcast, become a fan. Engage in social media and be part of the tribe. Over time, you can reach out directly and make a pitch to be a guest. Be sure to have a high-quality pitch ready. What you can do to impact their tribe and your credentials.

Be Persistent- Sometimes the first answer is no or not yet. Don’t be deterred. Be persistent. Stay connected. Ask others to support you and encourage anyone you may know connected to the podcast to endorse you. Consistency is key to letting the host know you are eager to be on their show and collaborate.

Be Professional- Great guests are hard to find. Many people who are experts in their field have little experience being interviewed, and it shows. You can stand out by practicing your on-air presence including being a great listener and speaker. If you’ve been a guest on a show, consider creating a media kit to share with potential hosts. When they see how professional you are, they are more likely to book you.

Be Aware- Picking a podcast should be intentional and a good fit for your expertise and their audience, but there’s more to it than knowing the genre of the show. Be familiar with the show, be aware of how the host runs things. Listen to at least three recent episodes so you are familiar with the flow of the show and can engage easily.

Be Represented- There are booking agents out there who make a living connecting guests with hosts. Some have great reputations and are an asset to a host and some are throwing a lot at the wall seeing if it sticks. If you use a service, be sure that you vet the shows they book you for. Do your own due diligence and be familiar with the show and the host because they will see right through you if you show up for the show and have no idea what it’s about.

Finding and connecting with podcast hosts isn’t too difficult. Catch their eye by being a valuable asset for their show and their tribe and you will have no problem getting booked. Once you make a connection, ask for a referral and use the inside track to get your next booking.
