Host an Affiliate Contest

Boost Your Affiliate Program Challenge

One of your jobs, when you bring on affiliates to help you promote your products and services, is to motivate and encourage your affiliates to sell more products. A fun way to do that is to host an affiliate contest. A well-designed contest will help less experienced affiliates get out there and make at least one sale, and for super affiliates, it may encourage them (depending on the prizes and the commission) to promote you even more.

  • What is an Affiliate Contest? – An affiliate contest is when you set up prizes for your affiliates for a launch that you’re doing for a product. You set it up so that people who reach certain levels get a bonus or prize and that the overall bestseller gets a bigger prize.

  • Why You Need Affiliate Contests – You can energize your affiliates by having a contest that gives them a chance to win something amazing based on their sales. This contest also will not cost you a dime other than time to set up because you don’t give out prizes if no one reaches the milestones you have set.

  • Tips to Run a Successful Affiliate Contest – If you want to run a successful affiliate contest, you will need to follow some basic steps to ensure it goes smoothly. Let’s look at how you can do this and succeed in getting more sales and exciting your affiliates.

  • Provide an Amazing Products – Of course, this is the most important thing. Your product needs to be just what the audience wants and needs. Plus, the product must work as advertised, be easy to download, and easy to use.

  • Create Customer-Centric Service Priorities – Everything you set up in terms of customer service including website navigation needs to put your customers first. From your logo to the colors, to the fonts, to the navigation, to the helpdesk – it all needs to be designed for the customer the way they like it.

  • Be There to Help Your Affiliates – Likewise, you need an open-door policy with your affiliates to help them better promote your products. After all, they are your products, so you know the most about them. If they need product info, training, and understanding, you need to provide it to them. They need to have a way to contact you when there is a problem too.

  • Ensure the Price is Right – If you want to attract the right affiliates and customers, pricing is key. You don’t want to price too low because the incentive to promote won’t be there. However, you don’t’ want to price it out of your audience’s reach. You also don’t want it too low for your ideal customer who may think the quality is lower if it’s cheap. (Tip: Know Your Audience!)

  • Give Fair Commissions – The rule of thumb for most digital products is 50 percent. If there is a personal component to the product like coaching or something that takes your time as the product creator, you can lower that to 30 percent or so. Keeping in mind that the more your affiliates can make from one sale, the better. That’s the reason recurring memberships are such a good idea for you to create.

  • Provide the Marketing Collateral They Need – Give your affiliates a combination of marketing materials they can use. Freebies, blog posts, infographics, graphics, email content, social media content, and so forth. Also create high-converting sales pages, host webinars, and give your affiliates leeway to provide their own bonuses to their buyers. If you’re not sure about what type of content to provide, consider the kinds of content your buyers need throughout their journey and how that fits with your affiliates’ needs.

Now that you know how to do this, think about your next product launch and how you can incorporate a contest into the initial public launch. Plan it out in advance, make all the rules, and then go for it. Tease them about it in advance so that will get excited and join from day one of the contest.
